A senior British general has issued a chilling warning, claiming that all troops in the country must be prepared for the possibility of a third world war with Russia.

General Sir Patrick Sanders said Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine had shattered world security and peace.

But despite the stark message, he promised to mobilize an army that would beat Russia.

And he warned British troops they must now prepare “to fight again in Europe,” according to The Sun.

In a message on his fourth day on the job, he wrote: “There is now an urgent need to forge an army capable of fighting alongside our allies and defeating Russia in battle.

“We are the generation that must prepare the army to fight again in Europe.

“I am the first chief of staff since 1941 to assume command of the army in the shadow of a land war in Europe involving a continental power.

“Russia’s invasion of Ukraine underscores our core purpose – to protect the UK by standing ready to fight and win wars on land.”

However, General Sanders would only lead a small army of 73,000 troops – the size of the American Special Forces.

But he promised to modernize the army so it could handle international crises.

General Sanders said the army must “repel Russian aggression with the threat of force.”

He added: “It is my sole duty to make our army as deadly and effective as possible.

“The time is now and we must seize the opportunity.”

Tobias Ellwood, Tory Chair of the Defense Committee, added: “The scale of the ongoing threat from Russia shows that we have entered a new era of uncertainty.

“We need to reconsider some of the cuts we made to our conventional defense posture in the last integrated review.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has vowed “not to cut our armed forces in any way”, but the army has lost 800 armored vehicles and 80 Challenger 2 tanks.
