Tooele doctor who treats orphans in Ukraine was welcomed home by the whole family at SLC airport

“I couldn’t just do nothing anymore,” said Dr. Gordon Duval.

(FOX 13) Dr. Gordon Duval is welcomed by his family after traveling to Ukraine to provide medical care to orphans.

Leona Duval waited with her children at the terminal of Salt Lake City International Airport on Saturday afternoon for her husband to return from an important mission.

“Daddy wanted to go out and help them for a week,” Duval told her kids. “We knew he would be fine and he would come home.”

The family was looking forward to spring break trips, but just two weeks ago, Dr. Gordon Duval his plans.

“I’m in my home right now, which is nice and warm, with a pantry and fridge full of groceries,” he said. “And [Ukrainians] I don’t have much at all, so I felt like I couldn’t just do nothing anymore. I had to do something.”

With tremendous help from the community, the family raised nearly $19,000 in just one week and raised an additional $60,000 in medical supplies to allow Dr. Duval was able to treat orphans in Ukraine with the August Mission. The pediatrician returned home practically empty-handed, but that’s not how he left.
