Tony Abbott joins the UK’s leading climate-sceptic think tank, the Global Warming Policy Foundation

Abbott, who lost Warringah’s previously secure Sydney seat to pro-climate independent Zali Stegall in the 2019 election, has held several senior positions since leaving politics, including joining the board of directors of the Ramsay Center for Western Civilization and serving on the council of the Australian War Memorial. He was also appointed Advisor to the UK Board of Trade in September 2020.

Other members of the Board of Trustees include Lord David Frost, a former diplomat, civil servant and politician who was the UK government’s chief Brexit negotiator, Michael Kelly, a professor of technology at Cambridge University, and former German politician Fritz Vahrenholt, a leading climate skeptic in Britain Europe. Board positions are unpaid.
The foundation was funded in part by Sydney-born billionaire philanthropist Michael Hintze, a major Conservative Party donor who was knighted by former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The chairman of the foundation, Dr. Jerome Booth said that Abbott, as a former prime minister, would bring a fresh global perspective and detailed policy insights.
“He will continue to support our goals and support our efforts to foster a culture of debate, respect and scrutiny in policy areas currently dominated by intolerance, high emotion, moral reasoning and confusion,” he said.
