One TikToker says that despite the achievement of the United States entering a recession and inflation rising, people are still choosing to quit their corporate jobs in the Great Resignation because “we’ve reached a breaking point.” Netizens agreed, saying they “literally don’t care.”
Gabby Ianniello (@corporatequitter) posted the clip on Tuesday. According to her TikTok profile, Ianniello describes herself as a “Great Resignation Baddie”. As of Wednesday, the video has garnered over 54,800 views.

In the clip, she says: “Even though the world has been the way it is for the last two damn years, which is bullshit. And it’s just escalating and now we’re entering a recession, people still don’t care and they’re giving up. This is because we have reached a breaking point again. We don’t care, the money doesn’t matter, the fucking leveling up of your career doesn’t give a fuck.”
She continues, “The only thing that matters is my fucking mental health because I’m about to fucking lose my mind,” she continues. “I’d rather sell my damn toenails or my used underwear or do anything else in the damn world for money than have a damn corporate job in my whole damn life.”
The clip shows a screenshot of a Bloomberg article titled “People Keep Quitting Their Jobs Even as Recession Fears Mount.” The article states that despite inflation, recession and a turbulent stock market, workers – especially young people – are quitting their jobs in record numbers. The Great Resignation began about two years ago when the pandemic showed people that “life is too short to get stuck in an unsatisfying job”.
Commentators agreed with Ianniello.
One user said: “Me too. Fear of a recession is not as bad as being in a toxic work environment.”
“Amen to that!!!!” commented another TikToker.
“Money is worthless anyway. Why work for her fun while we’re being pushed into the trenches,” wrote another.
“I’m DED. I feel this on a different level,” wrote another.
Others shared how they are also quitting their jobs.
One user wrote, “I was checking this out on my last day at my corporate job.”
“I just quit my stressful job without a plan. How cooperate 9-5s are not worth it!!” commented someone else.
The Daily Dot reached out to Ianniello via Instagram direct message.
