TikToker says Disney park characters can’t speak non-English language

In a TikTok posted on December 4, Jessica Tremmel (@tremainetok) said that in playing Lady Tremaine, also known as Disney’s evil stepmother Cinderella, at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, she is not allowed to speak any language other than English.

Tremmel said she speaks both Spanish and French in addition to English as Lady Tremaine.

“If I get caught, that’s a huge reprimand and potentially fired,” she said. “I love going to people who don’t speak English and surprising them because I speak their language.”

In a follow-up TikTok, Tremmel responded to a comment said that Lady Tremaine should speak French because Cinderella takes place in France.

“It’s very difficult to get actors in the US who speak French,” she said. In the following TikTok, Tremmel says the rule is for “character integrity”. She also put together a video explaining that if one Lady Tremaine speaks another language, then “all the other Lady Tremaine must be.” However, Tremmel explained that the language rule only applies to Disney parks in the United States.

“In all non-American Disney parks, the characters can speak other languages,” she said in a follow-up video. “At Disneyland Paris, they are encouraged to speak multiple languages and they have no trouble staying there. I have a problem with that. If you want a rule, it needs to be on all parks. “

Tremmel said in Other TikTok that when she’s working, but not acting as a character, she can speak other languages.

“I used to talk only about the performers, not about the others [castmembers],” she commented.

Tremmel declined to comment. The Daily Dot contacted Walt Disney World.
