TikToker finds neighbor’s cat stuck outside in the cold, heated debate

A debate over whether pet owners should leave their cats outdoors is ongoing after a TikToker found her neighbor’s cat was outside in the cold.

In the December 19 clip, Lupita (@lupyv) shared that at 2am, she saw her neighbor’s cat “it was cold outside so I let him in my apartment for a bit”. In the caption, she wrote that the cat “looks so sad.”

In the comments section, Lupita said that the cat ended up going out alone and she just gave it water. “I feel bad but I don’t want the neighbors to quarrel,” she wrote.

She also shared that she saw the cat outside again a week after she posted TikTok.

The comments section sparked a debate about indoor and outdoor cats. “Our neighbors leave their decorative cats on all the time. We just fitted a cat door in our man’s shed/cave for her. Now she has heat, food, bed…” @ hmoss01 wrote.

“Oh, it was so cute and still so little. They shouldn’t have left it out especially too late,” @beelooove commented.

Many people commented on how they would keep the cat. “I will just keep the cat. People can be cruel,” @flyoverthesea wrote.

Others commented that their cats preferred being outdoors and that cat owners benefited from the doubt. “All are trippins on indoor/outdoor cats. my cat is doing great, he always comes back at night to sleep with me and check in during the day,” @saraa.salgado Written.

“Perhaps he refused when called. My cat stares at me when I try to get him in and he pulls away. I check every 20 minutes and he still refuses sometimes”, @livingflower Written.

“I hope you have returned their cat. My cat has been missing for 3 days. The damn neighbors had him,” @mio_kyo exasperated.

In one TikTok Posted on January 3, Lupita shows the cat being left outside as she is leaving her apartment building. She also posted another one TikTok says how “scared” she’s been of meeting neighbors who own the cat since her first video of it went viral. She added that she hasn’t seen the cat since Christmas.

According to the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, you should keep your cat like a pet indoor cat for its health and safety. Outdoor cats are at risk for more problems than indoor cats, such as being hit by vehicles, attacked by other animals, or infected with parasites and other illnesses. Statistics show that indoor cats usually live about 10 to 15 years, while outdoor cats live about 2 to 5 years.
