TikToker customer returns White Castle box due to cancer warning

A TikToker claimed a grocery store customer returned a box of frozen White Castle burgers because “she said it caused cancer”, sparking debate on the platform.

TikTok user @prettyoutkhold is a grocery store cashier who posted a viral TikTok about returning customers to the White Castle. The video has received more than 3.2 million views since it was posted on November 26.

According to the video’s caption, @prettyoutkhold “tried their burger once and it made me sick, never again”.

The video magnifies a label affixed on the back of the White Castle box: “Consuming this product may expose you to furfuryl alcohol, a substance California has found to be carcinogenic.”

Recommend 65 requires businesses to warn customers in California about any product containing chemicals that have been linked to “cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.”

However, many foods and products contain substances that are considered carcinogens in California. Such warnings are given everything From freshly roasted coffee to amusement parks and routine dental procedures.

Furfuryl alcohol, the potential carcinogen in White Castle frozen burgers, can be found in heat-processed foods like pies, juices and coffee. It is also commonly used in frozen or prepackaged meals to brown foods.

@prettyoutkhold’s condemnation of frozen burgers led many to comment on the prevalence of carcinogens. Several commenters noted that California puts a cancer warning label on almost every product.

“That label is on everything in CA. @Hbake7 said.

“Bro California claims everything causes cancer,” said @ificared69.

Others are wary of the unhealthiness of processed foods.

@999nueve666 says: “All processed foods are there.

“Pretty much the food we eat causes cancer!” @michelle_833 said.
