TikToker claims her therapist slept with her boyfriend

In a viral TikTok, a woman says her therapist allegedly slept with the man she was dating.

Meghan Mutter (@meghanmutter) posted the TikTok on Saturday. In the clip, mom is at the gym and the text overlay reads, “Tell the therapist all the trauma this boy taught me. She’s sleeping with him.” As of Monday, TikTok has nearly 400,000 views.

In the comments, viewers shared their shock at the situation. “When I say I gasped…” said one viewer.

“The way my jaw dropped,” wrote another.

“She was trying to put herself in your shoes,” commented a third user.

Several users asked Mother for a story time video to explain more details. She hasn’t made any follow-up videos with additional details yet.

Some argued that the therapist must have inadvertently slept with the man, unaware that the couple was involved.

“No way she did it even though she knew it was him, right? Just like I don’t show my therapist a picture of my ex it just has to be a coincidence 😭,” one viewer wrote.

Others said they didn’t believe Mother’s story. “I don’t think so 😳 or at least don’t want to,” said one user.

Some commenters said the situation “feels illegal,” while others said she should take her therapist to court.

The Code of Ethics for Psychologists and the American Psychological Association’s Code of Conduct require psychologists to refrain from relationships that could reasonably present a conflict of interest. It also notes that therapists “should not engage in sexual intimacy with anyone they know to be a close relative, guardian, or significant other of current clients/patients.”

Breaking this code of ethics does not mean the therapist can be sued, but it does mean they could likely lose their APA membership.

The Daily Dot reached out to mom via Instagram direct message for comment.
