A video of a small furry hound with bright red fur running around a bathroom looking like a murder scene has garnered 562,100 views on TikTok — but it’s not.
The dog in the video has actually been dyed red, reminiscent of Clifford the Big Red Dog, in the bathroom. Hair dye was smeared along the walls, tub and under the bathroom door. Posted by @isabeastly, the video and a follow-up video revealing the results have sparked some debate about the practice of dyeing dog fur.
“I saw a certain girl dye her dog’s hair on TikTok and I’ve been wanting to dye her dog’s hair for a while,” reads overlaying text on the video. “Omg my landlord will take my deposit.”
Some commenters expressed concern for the dog’s safety.
“Is that even safe for the dog?” wrote one commenter. “I’m so confused and scared by that, lol I hope so!”
“Oh, that’s not good, poor baby,” another added.
To be sure, yes Choose a safe semi-permanent dye for dogs Available at most major pet retailers as well as online, and some grocery stores offer coloring services. This semi-permanent dye will last for a certain amount of washing time before fading. However, dyes should not be used to color animals’ hair because they contain chemicals that can be toxic to them or cause chemical burns.
Some viewers thought the results were cute — in the “reveal” video, the little dog has some orange and red patches. Others are calling for the bathroom to be opened, following the mess of the original video.
“Lol he is so cute,” wrote one commenter. “But I want to see that bathroom.”
