Cheapness is often viewed as one of the worst traits a person can have, but there are many who would argue that there is a clear difference between stinginess and thrift. And it seems that there are many TikTokers slamming another user for not knowing the difference.
A woman named Dafna (@dafna_diamant) says in a TikTok that she canceled a date because the guy refused to pay $3 for a single slice of cheese on his burger.
Dafna says she met a man through dating app Hinge and they agreed to meet for dinner. Things were going well until he refused to put cheese on his burger after the waitress told him it would require an extra $3 fee. For Dafna, this was a deal breaker.

Shocked that he would refuse to pay an extra $3 for a slice of cheese, the TikToker said: “I’m like what the heck? I’m like OK I’m hungry I’ll get my branzino and see what happens.
Dafna continues, “And he was like, ‘Oh my god, you have to pay extra for everything these days,’ and I was like, ‘Yeah. It’s New York City.’”
Dafna says after they both received their meals and ate until “she was full,” she told him she was going to the bathroom.
“I grabbed my purse and went to the waitress and I was like, ‘Hey, I just want to pay the bill,’ and I just paid the bill and walked out of the restaurant and texted him,” she says. “So I texted him, ‘The check is settled, you should have gotten the cheese,’ and I blocked him.”
Dafna wrote in the caption to her video that the dinner “was $55.”
Many TikTokers expressed shock that she would be posting a video of her actions as if she had the right to abandon someone on a date because they refused to pay $3 for a single slice of cheese.
“I wonder how she feels reading these comments. I hope she doesn’t delete this,” wrote one user.
One TikTok user said he thought Dafna’s story was going in a completely different direction, writing: “LMAO I thought it would be about him commenting that your meal was overpriced or Branzino didn’t want to pay. You are crazy.”
Others found it ridiculous that the restaurant served branzino to customers but charged $3 for a piece of cheese.
“Who would pay $3 for a slice of cheese?” one wrote. Another wrote: “A restaurant with branzino doesn’t include cheese in their burgers? lol.”
Several others felt she was ultimately doing the man a favor by blocking him, with one user writing, “He got lucky.”
Another, one of many, wrote: “Brother seems like he dodged a missile.”
Overall, there were many viewers who thought the woman’s behavior was inappropriate.
“That… didn’t mean you had to leave it at the restaurant?!” said one user.
In a follow-up video, Dafna responded to TikTokers calling her “crazy” and said her rude comments on her videos, that she was “ugly” and that she should kill herself, were inappropriate. She added that she still talks to the guy, who is a “psycho-like.” [her]’ and that she’s a broke student who spends half her salary on rent.

Commenters noted that they thought she said she blocked the guy, while others wanted “proof” they were going out on another date. Others said the follow-up clip only made matters worse as she showed a lack of financial awareness.
The criticism came back for Dafna after she posted a third video on the subject, in which she visited a restaurant and asked the waitress to give her $12 worth of cheese on a burger.

Another TikToker, Zakir (@zockr), posted a clip implying that he was the man who bought the $21 burger. He recorded a video of himself walking down the street with a burger in hand and saying, “To be fair, I had intentions of paying $21 for that burger, so the fuck it wasn’t worth adding $3 for cheese. But thanks for paying for dinner, bye ta ta.”
Commenters responded to Zakir, who had uploaded several clips about dating difficulties in the past, doubting he was really the person she was dating. Others, believing he was the man in question, reiterated that he “dodged a bullet” and was right for refusing to pay $3 for cheese.
The Daily Dot contacted Dafna via TikTok comment and Zakir via email.
