Three iPhone settings you MUST check today — or you’re seriously compromised

YOUR iPhone is the gateway to all of your online life – so you need to make sure it’s protected.

There are some settings that can massively improve your security and privacy, so make sure they’re enabled today.

Your iPhone has some very handy features that you should check out today

Emergency SOS

Setting up emergency contacts on your iPhone is a must.

iPhone has an Emergency SOS feature that allows you to quickly call emergency services.

But you can also add emergency contacts.

As soon as an emergency call is over, your iPhone will then alert those emergency contacts with an SMS – but this can be canceled if you wish.

iPhone sends your current location to your emergency contacts.

And the contacts also get updates when your location changes.

To set up emergency contacts, go to the Health app and then tap your profile picture.

Tap Medical ID, then tap Edit, then scroll to Emergency Contacts.

You can then activate Emergency SOS with the “five-click” trick.

And fill out your medical ID so responders can quickly learn your medical history.

How to activate Emergency SOS

There are two ways to activate the emergency SOS functions.

Press either the side or top button five times to pull up the emergency SOS slider.

Alternatively, on an iPhone 8 or later, you can press and hold the side button and a volume button until the slider appears.

Then drag the emergency slider to start the call.

Face ID attention

If you have a newer iPhone model, it almost certainly has Face ID.

It uses lasers to scan your face, verify your identity, and provide access to your iPhone.

Apple has previously said it has a one in a million chance of failing.

However, you must ensure that a key setting is enabled.

Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode, then scroll down.

Now ensure that Require Attention for Face ID is toggled to the green “on” position.

That means your iPhone will make sure you’re awake and looking at the screen before unlocking it.

It’s designed so someone can’t just hold your iPhone to your face – maybe while you’re dozing off – to unlock it.

“The TrueDepth camera provides an extra layer of security by verifying that you’re looking at the iPhone before authenticating,” Apple explains.

“Awareness detection may not work with some sunglasses.

“Face ID always requires attention when you’re wearing a mask.”

find my iphone

Your iPhone has a hidden secret that allows it to be found even when it’s turned off.

The Find My Phone app – standard on your device – makes it easy to track the device on a map.

This even works when the device is switched off.

That’s because Apple has included Ultra Wideband technology in some recent iPhone models.

So other iPhones or Apple devices that have been in the vicinity of the handset will “ping” it to Apple’s Find My network.

All you need is someone with an Apple device moved close to the iPhone and it will show up on the map – even if it’s turned off.

However, your iPhone can only be tracked using this method if it has UWB technology.

Supported models include:

  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro max
  • iPhone 12 mini
  • iphone 12
  • iPhone 12 pro
  • iPhone 12 pro max
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 mini
  • iPhone 13 pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro max

To enable this you need to go into Settings then tap on your name and then select Find My.

Now tap on “Find My iPhone” and turn on “Find My iPhone”.

But a map is useless if your phone is buried under a pile of clothes or has found its way into your kitchen waste.

Luckily, iCloud lets you “ping” your handset and force it to send out a quick alert — helping you track it down.

Anyone with another Apple device — like another iPhone, an iPad, or an iPod Touch — can download the Find My Phone app.

Once you have the app installed, tap on the iPhone you are missing and then press the “Play Sound” button.

This forces the iPhone to make a sound even when it’s on silent.

If you don’t have any other Apple devices, the next best option is to sign up for iCloud.com.

From there, you can access Find My iPhone feature and play a sound on iPhone.

You can use Find My iPhone to locate your device on a map and even wipe the handset remotely.

This is a great defense against thieves.
