Paul Robinson believes Thomas Tuchel could be sacked by Chelsea at the end of the season.

Since arriving in January 2021, Tuchel has been a hit at Stamford Bridge, guiding the west Londoners to Champions League glory and three domestic cup finals, including the FA Cup final later that month.

However, after a strong start to the season, the Blues have suffered a drop in results and are now clinging to a third place in the Premier League, while Arsenal are just a point behind them in fourth place.

Chelsea have had a ruthless approach to managers in the past and Robinson, the former Tottenham goalkeeper, believes Tuchel cannot count on being the club’s manager next season.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “We all know how happy Chelsea have been with their managers. If you don’t win a trophy, you’re usually in trouble.

“Often the manager changed after a season like this. Tuchel could well have gotten into trouble if Abramovich had still been in office.

“On the other hand, the situation that Tuchel had to deal with is not easy. It’s a situation he didn’t expect or want.

“Would they have walked out of the Champions League and had such a slump in league form if things had been stable behind the scenes. There were many outside influences this season.

“If you look at Chelsea’s season at face value, you would probably question Tuchel’s future at the end of the season.”

With Tuchel’s side aiming for three trophies in February, Chelsea’s recent struggles came as a surprise.

After losing the League Cup final to Liverpool on penalties, their campaign turned sour when government sanctions against owner Roman Abramovich created uncertainty at the club.

With the Premier League title out of reach, defending the Champions League was top priority, but that ambition ended after Real Madrid beat them in the quarter-finals in April.

League defeats to Arsenal and Everton have since weakened the Blues’ third-place finish. Meanwhile, Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Wolves means Chelsea have won just one of their last five league games.
