Third Russian general ‘killed in Ukraine’ in another strike on Vladimir Putin

Ukraine claims to have killed Russia's Major General Andrey Kolesnikov, the commander of Russia's Eastern Military District.

Major General Andrei Kolesnikov is said to be the latest high-profile casualty in the invasion of Ukraine

According to officials, a third Russian general was killed in Ukraine within eight days in yet another setback to Vladimir Putin’s invasion.

Major General Andrei Kolesnikov of the 29th Combined Arms Army is the latest high-profile casualty of the war, the Ukrainian government announced today.

It comes four days after the assassination of Major General Vitaly Gerasimov – the first deputy commander of Russia’s 41st Army.

And before that, Andrei Sukhovetsky, deputy commander of the 41st combined arms army of the Central Military District, was also killed in combat.

It is believed that 20 Russian generals are taking part in the invasion of Moscow, which has dragged on for longer than expected.

Day 16 of the invasion – some units are running low on fuel and supplies as western leaders claim Putin failed to pull off a quick victory as expected.

Russia’s military is said to have made limited progress over the past 24 hours, although a 40-mile convoy is now underway again after getting stuck off Kyiv for over a week.

Putin’s armed forces have now lost more tanks than are currently operational in the entire Bundeswehr.

And Kolesnikov’s death, if confirmed, means as many Russian major generals have been killed in two weeks as in the entire Syrian civil war in which Putin helped prop up Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

In a tweet, the Ukrainian military claimed to have killed Kolesnikov, saying, “Russian invaders continue to lose their officers in the war against Ukraine.”

Several journalists reported that anonymous Western officials also confirmed that a third Russian general had been killed in action in Ukraine.

Yesterday Ukraine claimed Russia had lost over 12,000 troops, as well as heavy weapons including 49 fighter jets, 81 helicopters and 335 tanks.

However, these figures could not be independently verified and differ greatly from Russia’s own estimates of its losses.
