‘There will never be another Michael Jordan’: As the Bulls legend speaks of him, Dr J, Elgin Baylor, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird are the benchmark against which to compare in the NBA

NBA legend Michael Jordan talks league comparison and why they wouldn’t be a player like him.

In many ways, Michael Jordan considered a yardstick to measure success in the NBA. The Bulls legend was a generation of athletes that dominated the league for much of the ’90s. The basketball game had never seen anything like his Spirit.

MJ’s arrival in the NBA was the start of the sport going global. Legends such as Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did not experience the fame of a Jordan. It was the beginning of the NBA, there were leaps in popularity.

Although he was compared to the likes of Dr J and Elgin Baylor in his early years, MJ has carved out his niche and become a success story everyone wants to be like him. . The late Kobe Bryant even admitted to trying to imitate some of MJ’s moves on the court.

At the time, Jordan was the benchmark for every potential superstar in the NBA. However, the Bulls superstar despises this view.

Michael Jordan believes in players having their identities

In a 1998 interview with Stuart Scott, Jordan said that he was the benchmark for up-and-coming players. Scott asked MJ how he feels when players like Grant Hill, Jerry Stackhouse, Harold Miner, Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan are branded as the next MJ.

Although Jordan doesn’t consider these comparisons fair, he knows they are a yardstick. Something that he also predicted.

“You know it’s not fair, but it’s a yardstick. When I go to Dr. J, Elgin Baylor, you know it’s just a measure of people by comparison. But there will never be another Michael Jordan, never another doctor. J, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. ”

“It’ll be Kobe Bryant’s now, it’s going to be Grant Hill going our way.”

MJ added that the league cannot fool consumers into labeling a single player, and if it does, the reputation of the brand could suffer. Jordan believes that players should not try to model their game on a particular individual. Therefore, forget about the fundamentals of the game.
