There are six types of belly buttons… and that’s what yours says about you

PEOPLE are all different and that makes us unique.

More often than not, your taste in music, your haircut, or even your job can be a great indicator of personality.

Experts say the type of belly button you have can say a lot about the kind of person you are

However, experts say there is one body part that might be the biggest indicator of your personality – the belly button.

Whether you’re an innie or an outie, that little hole can determine whether you’ll make a good partner and even how long you might live, experts say.

Your belly button is with you for life and the dent in your navel is determined by the healing and scarring of the umbilical cord, apparently that says a lot about the type of person you are.

It all stems from the omphilomancy theory, which examines a person’s navel shape to identify personality traits.

This is a type of Chinese mythology, and people who believe in it say that your belly button shape can even predict how many children you will have.

Let’s just say if you’re looking for a big family, the deeper the better.

According to the Berlin psychologist Dr. Gerhard Reibmann, author of Centered: Understand Yourself through your Navel, you can also tell how long you will live by examining your navel.

There are some conditions that can make your belly button look a bit odd, but the NHS says this is mostly the case in children or toddlers.

It states that an umbilical hernia occurs when an internal part of the body pushes through a weakness in the muscle or surrounding tissue wall.

The NHS notes: “Umbilical hernias are very common in infants and young children, particularly those born prematurely.

“An umbilical hernia appears as a painless lump in or near the navel (belly button).

“It can get bigger when you laugh, cough, cry, or go to the toilet, and it can shrink when you relax or lie down.”

This usually corrects itself before a child’s first birthday.

While there’s no scientific evidence that the shape of your belly button can predict your temperament or lifespan, we certainly found these theories entertaining.

So if you’re an adult and curious about what the size or shape of your belly button really means, then below is everything you need to know.

Protuding Naval (aka an Outie)

This type is most common in infants and young children, and as we grow, the belly button usually changes and gets wider as well.

Also known as umbilical hernias in adolescents, they can sometimes look like a painless lump. They can get bigger when they laugh, cough, cry, or go to the bathroom.

A protruding belly button indicates a strong, outgoing, optimistic character who is stubborn, a fan of the limelight, and persistent to get what he wants.

People who have an outie think a lot about and hold onto their beliefs and opinions. It takes time for them to find a compatible partner, but once they do, their relationship is expected to be long.

Average life expectancy: 72 years.

Deep and round navel

Someone who has this type of belly button might look like they have a shadow under the belly button crease.

In some people it can look like an open mouth and experts say this type is common in people with excess belly fat.

This navel shape indicates a humble, even-tempered person with a big heart and a quiet, shy personality.

They tend not to tell their loved ones and peers about their misfortunes in life.

Average life expectancy: 81 years.

Vertical/elongated belly button

This shape of the belly button is narrow and thin, apparently indicating a confident, generous, and emotionally stable person.

Over the years many people have sought this type of belly button – some people even have cosmetic procedures to change the look of their belly button.

It has previously been noted that this is the most common belly button type.

A journal published in the Annals of Plastic Surgery made the discovery.

Average life expectancy: 75 years.

Horizontal belly button

This belly button tends to spread laterally across the abdomen, showing a complex and emotional personality.

They don’t tend to put their trust in others right away, but when they do, it signals that that person means a lot to them. One of her principles in life is to treat others the way they treat you.

It is sometimes referred to as the T-type belly button. It differs from a hollow belly button because the upper part of the skin covers the opening close enough.

Average life expectancy: 68 years.

Off-centre navel

This unusually shaped navel indicates a fun-loving, unique personality prone to wide swings in mood, often with heightened emotions.

Many pregnant women sometimes find that their belly button shifts slightly during pregnancy as their abdomen expands.

Average life expectancy: 70 years.

oval shape

An egg-shaped navel indicates a hyperactive and overly sensitive personality. Taking things too seriously can get them easily hurt — and they often keep quiet about it.

They are impatient people and tend to get bored quickly and easily.

Average life expectancy: 65 years.

We already shared that belly button sculpting is the latest trend in cosmetic surgery… and people are dying to copy Emily Ratajkowski’s “Hooded Oval.”

And a man’s giggling post about his wife’s pregnant belly button finally revealed a medical condition.

Experts have previously warned that you shouldn’t pull in your belly button to give the impression of a flat stomach.

Pelvic floor expert Stephanie Taylor of Kegel8 said sucking in involves you pulling belly button inwards and upwards by contracting the upper abdominal muscles. This may seem perfectly normal considering how many women do it, but if you do this for too long it can have both physical and mental effects.

She said this includes problems with your pelvic floor and she said it can also put strain on your neck and back.
