‘The White Lotus’ cast talks about Ethan, Harper, Cameron and Daphne’s hookups

Did they or didn’t they? The White Lotus Viewers were left with plenty of questions about what happened in the season 2 finale – and the cast have offered their own thoughts on the possible off-screen connections.
During the last episode, which aired on Sunday December 11th, Ethan (Will Sharpe) expressed his concern about what happened between his wife Harper (AubreyPlaza) and his college roommate Cameron (Theo James). In reply, Cameron’s wife (Meghan Fahy) tried to ease Ethan’s fear before inviting him to join her on a remote island next to her resort.
According to Sharpe, 36, meeting Ethan and Daphne off-screen while he was filming the scene definitely felt like an opportunity.
“It’s open to interpretation. But I feel like whatever happened, this moment between them is definitely a connection moment in every sense of the word. It’s a moment of intimacy,” the actor said diversity on Monday December 12th. “I think there’s something about Daphne’s confidence and the adjustment she’s found with who she is and how she lives. Something about it I think influences Ethan.”
Sharpe also praised his co-star for the way she approached the filming process, adding, “Often Meghann and I would be in scenes together, but that was one of the few real interactions we had. I really felt that Meghan did such a great job in that scene. It was such a pleasure to be a part of it.”
Creator mike white previously weighed what he thinks happened between Ethan and Daphne.
“Did Ethan and Daphne have some kind of love match on the island or what happened? That allows [Ethan] to let go of the jealousy that’s been brewing with him,” the screenwriter, 57, said on HBO Max’s Unpacking S2 E7 featurette on Sunday. “It kind of brings back that first kind of sexual charge that comes at the beginning of a relationship and sometimes fades over time.”
White pointed out that the ambiguity allowed Ethan and Harper to go to a better place, adding, “You end up thinking, ‘Well, maybe what Ethan and Harper needed [was] just a pinch of what Cameron and Daphne have.’ To me, it feels like Cameron is one of those guys that’s not really going to change. Some of the unspoken things between them make you wonder if that will eventually catch up with them. It’s sort of a happy ending, although there are dark clouds on the horizon.”

During an interview with diversitySharpe joked about Cameron and Harper’s easy-going attitude after interfering in Ethan and Harper’s marriage.
“I think it’s so funny that after the day they had, they just come over and sit down with Ethan and Harper,” he added of the awkward dinner scene between the four of them. “I feel like that’s part of Ethan and Harper feeling united in that moment and being like, ‘Are you kidding me? Just go and sit over there! Like, what are you doing?’ It’s funny trying to figure out how sincere Daphne’s is. Is she serious or is it just an idea?”

In Season 2, Harper claimed Cameron only kissed her when they walked into her hotel room. Meanwhile, Plaza, 38, had some other ideas about what happened.
“Just a kiss? I think I packed a little bit more than that,” she captioned during a performance Late Night with Seth Meyers on Monday. “What happened is – we did some stuff. And I hated every minute of it. It was disgusting. And there was no intrusion! I do not know.”
The actress noted that she wouldn’t rule out a split between Ethan and Harper in the future. “I was really keen on doing some takes that we might not have been so lucky with,” she shared. “Maybe they’ll be okay. But I kind of have a fantasy that Harper will divorce him and take all his money.”

For the bold type Alum, 32, the moment Daphne finds out about Cameron’s infidelity felt like a turning point for her character.
“I think the whole plot there is designed to challenge the parameters of what we would call a working relationship. And I think that with Daphne and Cameron, Daphne is trying to teach not only Harper but also Ethan that they have other options. Because that’s how she lives, you know?” she told Vanity Fair in December. “She’s like, ‘It doesn’t have to be like this. You could get a trainer.” Or like, ‘You could take me for a walk to this island.’”
Fahy continued: “And who knows what they did there. I don’t think she’s doing this to get back at Cameron or anything. I really think, in her weird way, it’s like a sensitive thing that she’s doing that she’s trying to take care of these people.”

After the finale, James, 37, spoke about his interpretation of Harper and Cameron’s off-screen scene.
“I always read it, as Harper says, fairly accurately. I think she’s oddly attracted to this monster that is Cameron, but she’s also trying to use the incident to wake Ethan out of his existential and sexual reverie,” he said vulture. “In terms of what exactly happened, it was probably more than she was halfway to admit. Maybe not the most extreme version of that scenario, but there was something else.”
