The video shows a man with “religious prejudices” attacking an FIU student, prosecutors say

freshwater, Fla. – Surveillance video shows a man who recently assaulted a Florida International University student at The One at University City in Sweetwater.

A fight started in the elevator. The victim told police the beatings in the hallway were accompanied by death threats and hateful insults.

According to the arrest report, Daniel Roncancio called the victim “an Arab cockroach” and mocked his accent before threatening to kill him and his father.

Officers arrested 27-year-old Roncancio on Tuesday for the April 29 attack in the hallways of the apartment building at 740 SW 109th Ave.

“He’s one of my neighbors,” Roncancio told Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Mindy S. Glazer in court.

Glazer had some advice for him: “Think like a fish. Shut up or you’ll get hooked.”

Prison records show that he is charged with assault with prejudice, assault based on religious prejudice, domestic trespassing, resisting an officer without violence against himself, and assault by inmate against a visitor or another inmate.

Glazer ordered Roncancio to stay at least 10 feet from the victim.
