The Utah Red Cross is helping displaced residents after a building fire in St. George

A fire in St. George displaced 15 people Thursday night, and officials from the Utah American Red Cross are providing assistance.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a backyard near 250 North 2700 East after 6:30 p.m. Thursday, according to FOX 13. The fire damaged or destroyed six homes and displaced families, but no one was injured in the blaze, the Red Cross said in a press release.

The organization’s Disaster Action Team helps displaced people find shelter and other resources.

“These specialized volunteers provide compassion and care when it’s most needed,” Benjamin Donner, executive director of the American Red Cross Central & Southern Utah Chapter, said in a press release. “Our staff and volunteers are also trained to provide preparedness classes so families know how to evacuate safely if a fire breaks out in their home.”
