WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden on Friday approved the delivery of an additional $150 million in military aid to Ukraine for artillery shells and radar systems to fight invading Russian forces.
Biden said the latest spending means his administration has “nearly exhausted” what Congress approved for Ukraine in March and has urged lawmakers to quickly approve a more than $33 billion spending package due by will last at the end of September.
“We are sending the weapons and equipment that Congress has approved directly to the frontlines of freedom in Ukraine,” Biden said in a statement. “US support, along with the contributions of our allies and partners, was critical in helping Ukraine win the Battle of Kyiv and thwarting Putin’s war aims in Ukraine.”
A US official said the latest tranche of aid includes 25,000 155mm artillery shells, counter-artillery radars, jamming equipment, field equipment and spare parts.
