In recent years, the Internet has strangely fascinated With 30-something.
tell someone that helook 30” on tick tock should be one offensive statementalthough personally I think it’s a compliment (I was looking at old photos of me in my early 20’s Facebookand I have no interest if you go back to that time). And there are plenty of articles out there that will tell you what she should reach until 30
This week a man who retired at 35 and is now offering financial advice, @SteveOnSpeedShe tweeted, “By 30 you should have a group of friends talking about business, money and fitness, not politics and pop culture.”
The tweet seems to be a jokebut his feeling was serious. It inevitably turned into a meme about what people should have by the milestone.
“By 30 you should have one favorite pen You will not let anyone use a cache pretty notebooks You’re saving for a special occasion and at least one piece of media Look around endlessly to feel good,” tweeted @allieiswriting.
There is many versions of the meme that it references plots from TV shows and movies, which is ironic considering the original tweet shunned pop culture. But the general theme of the meme is that tell someone how they want their life to be is above a certain age Stupid. Some people Maybe you want to talk about pop culture with their lifelong friends (I fall under that category), while some want to debate money and finances. That’s fine; people are allowed to have different interests!
Declaring some topics juvenile and others mature keeps the idea alive that you have to do it become a different person after the age of 30 while giving up the interests and hobbies that bring you joy.
But the truth is you no demonstrable need to become another person when you get older Movies can be liked at any age. You can complain about politics at any age. Although you may give up some interests over the years, no one is asking you to turn into someone who doesn’t suit you.
Why it matters
The tweet was “Until the age of 30.” relative and memedbut it is one of many similar tweets through accounts that provide life and financial advice.
If you’re not in this world, you probably won’t see the tweets. However, when these types of tweets appear on the timelines of people outside of the life coaching sphere, they are largely pivoted. journalist Erica Ifill tweeted a response that mirrored what a lot of people were thinking: “Peddle that shit LinkedIn.”
