The St. Louis County Police Substation moves into townhomes in Spanish Lake

SPANISH LAKE, Mo. – Residents of Spanish Lake Townhomes will be welcoming new neighbors over the next few weeks.

The St. Louis County Police Department is adding a substation to the property. The substation will move into the property’s old lease office.

“I think having it here was important because it fills a need in the area,” said Joe Stilwell, the regional property manager.

Stilwell said he contacted the police department last fall to discuss the possibility of adding a substation to the property.

The sub-station will provide a place for District Police officers in the North District to take breaks and fill out paperwork.

“We’ve been able to develop a really good relationship with the St. Louis County Police Department,” Stilwell said. “I met a lot of the officers there, and we felt it was a great place to be able to do it.”

The substation will open in the next two weeks. Stilwell said he wants it to be there for as long as possible.

The station will be open 24 hours a day for patrol officers. Captain Tony Cavaletti said the station’s location will help break down barriers within the community.

“We’re actually in the community where they live and where they reside,” Cavaletti said. “So for us we’re in the area where they go to sleep every night. If anything happens, we’re right around the corner.”

Cavaletti said the sub-station allows officers to spread more widely in the area, adding that sub-stations are successful in deterring crime. The St. Louis County Police Substation moves into townhomes in Spanish Lake
