The search for the suspect continues after video shows a woman being dragged away in a kidnapping attempt in Burlington – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BURLINGTON, MASS. (WHDH) – Police are asking for the public’s help as they continue to search for a man who allegedly tried to kidnap a woman in Burlington on Sunday night.

Officers launched an investigation after receiving an 911 call from a woman who said she was driving home from work when she believed another woman to be seen by a male suspect on the Middlesex Turnpike just before 8:30pm to have been dragged away on foot near Great Meadow Road, according to the Burlington Police Department.

The suspect fled on foot and climbed a fence at the building department after the Good Samaritan stopped to help the victim and called 911, police said. The victim’s terror can be heard in the background of the call.

“I just saw a guy trying to kidnap a girl… He had her and he was dragging her,” the caller to an 911 said while comforting the distressed victim.

When she called 911, the victim confirmed that she did not know the suspect. Police released the tone of the call on Monday.

Rebecca Morris’ security camera captured the whole ordeal. She said she was shocked by what happened.

“I actually got goosebumps because you see and hear that on the news, but when you’re here in Burlington you don’t expect to see it every day,” she said.

Police described the suspect as a white male in his teens or early 20s. He was last seen wearing a black hat, black hoodie, khaki or brown pants and black and white sneakers.

The victim managed to escape and police found her arriving moments later.

A K9 from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department and a Bedford Police Officer have been called in to assist in the search, but the suspect remains at large.

“This is a wake-up call for all of us,” Burlington Police Chief Thomas Browne said. “We need public vigilance. Everyone thinks that’s not going to happen in Burlington.”

The woman who called 911 said she was still devastated by the whole ordeal. Now she is celebrated as a heroine.

“I didn’t do it for all of that. I did it because this woman needed my help,” she told 7NEWS over the phone.

And after helping this woman, she called her close friend Charlene Reno, who was babysitting her three kids while she was at work. Reno said this was a case of divine intervention.

“She doesn’t usually go that route. She usually goes straight to the satellites to get to the Middlesex Turnpike. But she took the side street, and then she sent something there because she said to me, “I never drive down that street,” Reno said.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Burlington Police Department at 781-272-1212.
