Last night, the Royal Family shared a new photo of the Queen to mark her 96th birthday shows her standing between two of her own fallen ponies.

Today we got a look at her, taken on her birthday herself at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

She is photographed wearing sunglasses and a headscarf while being driven by a chauffeur to and from Wood Farm, the “humble” farmhouse where she enjoyed spending time with Prince Philip after he retired from public duties.

The head of state opted to celebrate her birthday privately ahead of huge celebrations for her platinum anniversary across the country in June.

She’s struggled with mobility issues for the past few months, but she was out and about today to celebrate the 96th milestone.

Gun salutes rang out in her honor across the capital today, and Prime Minister Boris Johnson paid tribute to the monarch for her “dedicated and flawless service” over 70 years.

She also received congratulations from the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, among others.

In a birthday celebration, William and Kate’s official account tweeted a picture of the couple with the Queen at the Chelsea Flower Show a few years ago, and another picture of the Monarch and Duke of Edinburgh surrounded by their great-grandchildren, including Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

The message read: “Wishing Her Majesty the Queen a very happy 96th birthday today!

“An inspiration to so many in the UK, Commonwealth and around the world, it is very special to celebrate this #PlatinumJubilee year.”

The Royal Family’s official Twitter account also shared a photograph of the Queen as an infant in 1928, when she was two years old.

The Queen’s birthday celebrations have been muted for the past two years due to the pandemic.

Normally, their official celebration – Trooping the Color – takes place in June, but had to be canceled in 2020 and 2021.

This year the anniversary will continue.
