A man accused of breaking into his neighbor’s house has been caught by police after spotting his SpongeBob SquarePants-themed shorts and socks.
Police in Tulsa, Oklahoma, say the suspect’s love of the popular children’s cartoon helped them catch Edward Price, also known as “Smacc Man,” on September 16 for multiple burglaries at his apartment complex.
Five separate burglaries have been reported at the complex since July, the Tulsa Police Department said in a Facebook post. All of the reported robberies were of a similar nature, police said, noting that in each case the suspect kicked in the apartment door before stealing electronics, televisions and weapons from each home.
During several robberies, Price was seen fleeing the scene in SpongeBob shorts and SpongeBob socks.
When Price later went to Facebook Marketplace to try and sell some of the stolen items, the same SpongeBob shorts and socks could be seen in the background of the images.
After police obtained a search warrant for Price’s home, they found the two SpongeBob-themed clothes that matched the description in his possession.
Authorities then discovered stolen televisions, phones, iPads, tablets, guns, ammunition, internet routers and other electronics that Price appeared to have stolen from several of his neighbors’ homes.
“FYI, the suspect’s home was not in a pineapple under the sea,” Tulsa police joked in their post about the arrest.
Price was charged with triple second-degree burglary, knowing he had concealed stolen property and possession of a firearm. According to the Tulsa Police Department, Price is a previously convicted felon.
