The optical illusion uses a trick that makes it IMPOSSIBLE to solve a simple puzzle

An ALL-OVER optical illusion has reappeared on Reddit, leaving users stunned.
The illusion looks pretty simple at first glance, it’s just gray bricks and green lines.

However, if you take a closer look, you’ll notice that some of the lines seem to curve before straightening out again.
The viewer is challenged to point out the curved lines in the image, a task that is much more difficult than it sounds.
There doesn’t seem to be any way to “solve” the mystery no matter how you look at it.
That’s because the illusion relies on strategic placement of colors and shapes to trick your brain.

Scientists have previously explained that an illusion can occur when your brain guesses what’s going on in an image while you’re only staring at part of it.
Illusion lover Michael Bach provided an explanation on his blog.
He wrote: “This brilliant design is by illustrator Lesha Porche (USA). Word spread quickly when it came out, and thanks to Jeremy Hinton of Lilac Chaser for bringing it to my attention.
“My explanation is as follows: “The tiles contain a low-resolution lightness curve masked by all edges.
“It can be made clearer with a little blurring (4-5). Blurring occurs automatically in our visual system because – largely unnoticed – our visual resolution drops rapidly from the center of gaze: at 10° eccentricity, our visual visual acuity is 1/10 of median.
“But the periphery doesn’t ‘feel’ blurry, does it? Their sharpness is “invented” by our visual system, just as our blind spots are “filled in”.
Bach’s theory suggests that the lines in the illusion aren’t actually curved in the way your brain tells you.
However, a popular comment on Reddit put forward a different theory.
The comment explains, “In this image, there are subtle lines in the gray squares where the mini-squares are smaller and more compact inside.
“They’re naturally colored gray, not green, but your peripheral vision isn’t that good for green cones, so your brain fills in the lines on some of these lines with irregular density.”
“To see it, stare at the center and, without moving your eyes, try to visualize one of the curved lines in your peripheral vision…if you think you’re sure one exists, look at that area.” look closely, you will see subtle changes in tenacity in the middle of small squares that follow the pattern of the line you saw.”
Many other Reddit users took to the comments section to express their concerns about not being able to figure out the illusion.

One joked, “I’ll need new eyes after that.”
Another exclaimed: “I found out! There are no curved green lines, the patterns just have bright dots that look like curves!”
