THE ONE Show’s Alex Jones has urged others to buy the lady Deborah James Rose.
The rose will be launched at the Royal Chelsea Flower Show – and was described as “beautiful” by TV presenter Alex.
She wrote on Instagram: “Bought this and spoke to @iamlaurenmahon at the booth. They had already raised 22,000 for @bowelbabefund.
“There are no words for how much one individual has managed to inspire an entire country. The rose is beautiful. Buy one if you can.”
A handful of celebrities were pictured wearing the flower at the Royal Chelsea Show on Monday, including Dame Joana Lumley.
TV personality Katie Piper, model Jodie Kidd and presenter Gaby Roslin also showed their support for Dame Debs, posing with a bouquet of flowers.
Lauren Mahon, who co-hosted the BBC podcast You, Me and the Big C with Dame Deb, ran the stand with The Harkness Rose Company.
Lauren, a cancer survivor and close friend of Debs, described the rose as “absolutely gorgeous” and the “most perfect tribute.”
The rose is available to pre-order for Fall 2022, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Bowelbabe Fund.
Sun columnist Dame Debs has already raised millions of pounds since launching her fund with Cancer Research UK just over two weeks ago.
On the same day, the mother-of-two announced she was receiving palliative care at home five years after her terminal colon cancer diagnosis.
The tragic news came after Dame Debs captured the hearts of Brits and shared the most honest and rough moments of life with cancer.
She has been writing her column Things Cancer Made Me Say since being diagnosed with advanced colon cancer in 2016.
Since it was revealed she was no longer undergoing treatment, Debs, 40, has been honored with a damehood, which she received at home from the Duke of Cambridge himself.
She launched a clothing line with In The Style and announced that the publication of her new book, How to Live When You Could Be Dead, would be brought forward.
rose for a lady
Over the weekend, The Harkness Rose Company offered to name a species of rose after Dame Debs.
The white blooms have a subtle “ballerina pink” center, says Deborah, and “stand out perfectly against the dark green, glossy foliage.”
Dame Debs was presented with a bouquet of roses last week at her parents’ home in Woking, where she is receiving palliative care.
She wrote on Instagram this weekend, “I actually cried when they asked if they could name a rose after me.”
The former teacher was comforted by the fact that her daughter Eloise, 12, may one day have the flower at her wedding.
Debs said: “What breaks my heart and brings me the most beautiful thought is that this strain will and can be grown forever now, and maybe one day even Eloise will choose to have her in her wedding bouquet.
“The new rose is available to pre-order now and will be delivered in autumn 2022 (link in stories and below). Even better, £2.50 from the sale of each rose is paid to the @Bowelbabefund.
“There is of course a limited supply of rose plants for sale! Can’t wait for my family to plant them everywhere this fall.
“Earlier this week I had the pleasure of being presented with a bouquet of my new stunning roses and learning all about the work that went into them [sic].
“Rose is my favorite flower and I hope this one will brighten everyone’s smile!
“What also pleases me so much is to know that the rose will also be included in the company’s new Community Gardening Scheme, which aims to include vulnerable groups and people from underrepresented backgrounds in gardening.
“Harkness has pledged to give away 1,000 Dame Deborah James Roses to community gardens across the UK this autumn.”
