A new tool is “Clear Mode,” which reportedly removes usernames, captions, and audio buttons from the UI.

Users can also hide likes, comments, and shares for even cleaner scrolling via Tech Crunch.

China-based TikTok is testing the features on select users to see if it can better offer a distraction-free experience.

The new take was spotted by several TikTokers and highlighted on Twitter by social media consultant Matt Navarra.

Users who have access to the setting will see the option if they tap and hold the screen as per the images.

Once you’ve done that, “Clear Mode” should appear under the Add to Favorites button in the menu.

Clicking on it then enables a distraction-free viewing experience.

It is currently unclear if and when TikTok will launch the tool for TikTok users in general.

If the feature is officially implemented, it could prove useful in situations where usernames or captions cover important parts of a video.

However, it could also mean users have more trouble putting their devices down while viewing content, Phone Area reported.

In addition to the “Clear Mode”, TikTok is testing a number of other functions for its platform.

One of those features is a mobile live gaming tool that allows content creators to better engage with fans while live streaming.

Another tool TikTok is working on is a private dislike button that will allow users to identify comments they deem irrelevant.
