A worker slams his boss’s micromanagement of break times in a now-viral TikTok, sparking discussion in the comments.
“Are you telling me why I’m on my 10 minute break and my manager gives me a timer to measure the 10 minute break?” TikToker CJ (@unseriously) says in the video. “To hell? You can’t give me 11 minutes? This is the biggest ghetto shit I’ve ever seen in my life.”
The caption reads, “Didn’t know I traveled back through time to apartheid.”

The video has amassed over 557,000 views as of January 2, with viewers sharing their own experiences of micromanaging in the workplace.
Many said they also have managers who keep track of employees’ breaks, regardless of individual circumstances.
“When I was working at Jack in the box they set the food phase timer to anything that was up in 10 minutes,” wrote one commenter.
“I had a supervisor who did that,” said another. “I was yelled at for taking a 19 minute break instead of 15. I was pregnant at the time.”
“I always finished when I needed an extra minute, so my breaks eventually grew to seven minutes,” shared a third.
Others said they would just quit the job or tell their manager something.
“I would have gone with the timer and never come back bffr,” wrote one commenter.
“I would have stopped hiring right away,” shared another.
“I would quit because that’s not how I play,” said a third commenter. “My 10 minutes start when I want it to start.”
