- The first renders of the Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus show a camera module redesign that looks quite similar to the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
- These renders show three camera modules, each detached from the body individually, instead of the camera island used in Galaxy S21 and S22 phones.
- We expect the Galaxy S23 family to launch sometime after New Year’s in early 2023.
Samsung may not have any major upcoming launches planned for the rest of 2022, so leakers have instead resorted to spoiling the company’s next major launches, which are slated for early 2023. The Samsung Galaxy S23 family is expected to launch sometime after the New Year and looks set to bring a surprise redesign.
Onleaks and Smartprix (opens in new tab) have presented the first renders of Samsung’s upcoming Plus model flagship, which appears to have slightly different dimensions and a different camera module compared to the Galaxy S22 Plus (opens in new tab)our current favorite Android phone (opens in new tab).
Like this model, the S23 Plus appears to have three main cameras on the back. While the telephoto camera is rumored to remain the same (opens in new tab) As with the S22 Plus, it looks like all three cameras on the case will look physically different, inheriting the raised lenses of the Galaxy S22 Ultra (opens in new tab).

This is followed by Onleaks and Digit (opens in new tab) posted similar renders of the smaller Samsung Galaxy S23 in a white colorway, showing the exact same camera module design. This would be the smaller of the three assumed Galaxy S23 models and features a nearly borderless 6.1-inch display according to the renders.

It’s a bit strange to see Samsung getting rid of its distinctive camera island, but changing things up, it also looks different than the last two years of the Galaxy S flagships. The downsides to this design include the potential for shattering a lens if it lands wrong – as those lenses protrude individually – and the fact that single raised lenses tend to collect dust, like it’s nobody’s business, a problem, on that we often encounter with the S22 Ultra.
These leaked renders also show a slight resizing of the S23 Plus compared to the S22 Plus. Notably, it appears to be 0.3mm taller and 0.3mm narrower, although we’re not exactly sure why this change is occurring as there don’t seem to be any other major design changes that should impact the display or phone size . Both the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus appear to maintain the same screen size as their predecessors.
The phone appears to have the same flat back and flatter sides as the S22 Plus, complete with a pair of stereo speakers, a USB Type-C port and SIM tray on the bottom, and volume rockers and a power button on the right. While the renders only show one color at a time, it looks like Samsung is sticking with the S23’s matte finish if those renders are anything.
Not a fan of raised camera lenses? The Galaxy S22 Plus tucks these cameras into a protective metal island to keep them extra safe and dust-free.
