The entire Bay Area surges above $5 gas prices for the first time

Average gasoline prices have risen above $5 a gallon for the first time across the Bay Area — and throughout California — an unprecedented rise that is poised to fuel the region’s inflation woes.

All nine Bay Area counties and several counties bordering the region are now reporting average gas prices above $5 a gallon, according to the latest AAA gasoline price survey released Friday.

And to underscore just how far gas price problems have spread, for the first time California now has an average price above $5, the AAA survey found.
