The company sends a loot bag to the worker after she is fired

A woman on TikTok says her former employer sent her a swag bag just days after she was laid off.

The woman, Jess Gelbwaks (@jessgelbs), says in a recently posted TikTok that this is her third time being laid off during the pandemic.

“It was kind of out of the blue and it really sucked, but this is my third time since the pandemic that I’ve been laid off, so I was kind of used to it,” she says in the video, which racked up about 113,000 views on Wednesday.

As if to “put salt in the wound,” the Gelbwaks’ former employer sent her a bag of presents from an event they had recently, she says. She does not reveal the name of the company.

In response to the unmusical gesture, Gelbwaks says that she and her boyfriend destroyed the swag items.

“We love a supportive king, and you don’t owe your company anything,” Gelbwaks says in the video, while showing her boyfriend ripping apart the swag t-shirt and breaking the company’s sunglasses.

Viewers sent their condolences to Gelbwaks while also applauding her supportive boyfriend.

“Love the friend’s support in the destruction <3," one viewer commented on the video.

“I’m sorry, girl! Better times are coming!” commented a second viewer.

“He’s the only energy we need,” said another viewer of Gelbwaks’ friend.

Some viewers said they’ve had similar experiences with their former employers sending them swag and questioned why companies don’t cancel bag swag mailings after they fire employees.

“Not the late swag box…my company sent me 500 useless business cards,” said one user.

“I received my swag box of branded masks and sanitizer a week after I was released,” wrote another user.

“Okay, but as someone who does people ops in a fintech, I just want to speak to those who didn’t stop the swag packs when layoffs were happening,” commented one user.

Still, users assured Gelbwaks that if she can survive three layoffs, better things are to come.

“Third time?! I was upset about my first stop recently. It’s such a good way to let go haha. We have better things to come!” commented one viewer.
