The father of the Colorado gunman accused of killing five people at a gay club said he was relieved to learn his son was “not gay.”

Aaron Brink – a former porn star – who lives in Southern California, said homosexuality was incompatible with his family’s religious values.

His son Anderson Lee Aldrich, 22, has been accused of shooting dead five people and wounding 18 others in the massacre at a South Colorado gay club over the weekend.

Speaking to CBS8, Brink said: “They started telling me about the incident, which was a shooting involving multiple people.

“And then I find out it’s a gay bar. I said, ‘God, is he gay?’ I got scared, ‘Sh*t, is he gay?’ And he’s not gay, so I said ‘Phhhewww’.”

He added, “You know Mormons are not gay. We don’t do anything gay. There are no gays in the Mormon Church. We don’t do anything gay.’

The Mormon Church has confirmed that Aldrich was a member but had not been active for some time, The Daily Beast reported.

Aldrich opened fire at Club Q just before midnight on November 19 before being subdued by two bystanders.

Aldrich was initially hospitalized with non-specific injuries but was transferred to the El Paso County Jail, authorities said Tuesday.

In Brink’s interview with CBS 8, he apologized for his son’s alleged actions, saying that “there is no excuse for killing people.”

“If you kill people, something is wrong, that’s not the solution,” he said.

At the same time, “Brink, who is recovering from methamphetamine, praised his son’s violent behavior.”

“I told him it works, it’s right there and you’ll get instant results,” he said.

Brink told the broadcaster he didn’t know his son was alive.

He claims Aldrich’s mother, Laura Voepel, called him in 2016 to say her son changed his name and then died by suicide.

“I thought he was dead,” Brink said.

“I mourned his loss. I had gone through a meltdown and thought I had lost my son.

“His mother told me that he changed his name because I was at the intervention [a reality tv show] and had been a porn actor.”
