MIAMI — The U.S. Coast Guard on Tuesday returned 26 people to Cuba following a ban off the Florida Keys, according to an agency press release.
The agency intercepted the Cuban migrants on Friday after someone reported sighting a rustic ship about 15 miles southeast of Islamorada, the press release said.
“Family members in the United States inquiring about potential family members prohibited at sea please contact your local U.S. representative,” Coast Guard District Seven Petty Officer Nicole J. Groll said in the release. “Relatives outside the United States, please contact your local US embassy.”
According to the agency, since October 1, 2021, the Coast Guard has intercepted nearly 2,000 Cuban migrants.
