The city of Canning by-election called for December 9 to replace Lindsey Holland

The City of Canning is getting a new City Council for Christmas.

A special by-election has been called for Friday December 9th to replace recently resigned Councilwoman Lindsey Holland.

About 10,200 taxpayers in the council’s Beeliar parish, which covers most of the Willetton suburb, are eligible to vote.

Provided there is more than one candidate, they will receive postal votes in the weeks beforehand.

The election is expected to cost the council about $36,000.

The new Council member will be in office for less than 12 months before his term expires next October.
