The Broward man’s hand was blown off by fireworks

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – A Broward County man lost one of his hands in a nighttime fireworks accident Saturday, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office said.

In a news release, spokesman for the Broward Sheriff’s Office Carey Codd said around 1 a.m. dispatchers had dispatched deputies and firefighters to the 4400 block of 7 North State Road.

First responders arrived and found someone had already taken the man to a nearby hospital but found his hand, Codd said.

Broward Sheriff’s Firefighters took the man’s hand to that hospital and then took the man and his hand to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale for treatment.

It’s unclear if doctors were able to reattach his hand.

South Florida firefighters spent the days leading up to the July 4th holiday encouraging people to do so Leave the fireworks to the professionals or, apart from that, handle them safely.
