The artist Kathrin Longhurst is looking for “hi vis” women for a show about female empowerment
Longhurst, who won the 2021 Archibald Packing Room Prize with her portrait of singer Kate Ceberano, says the show Hello Vis womenwhich will open for International Women’s Day 2024 and Women’s History Month aims to paint women with light backgrounds to increase the visibility of women in art.
“My entire painting career has been about painting powerful stories about women – it’s about changing the discourse of how we portray women in the media, in art and culture, where for too long the woman – preferably naked – as Side job was considered a man,” Longhurst said.
The artwork will be unveiled on Wednesday at an event hosted by Collabor8Women, a networking group where the two women met. It was formed in the wake of the pandemic to get working women out of their homes and work bubbles and support each other.
Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore will be a guest speaker at Wednesday’s lunch at Bistro Rex, where attendees range from female entrepreneurs Michelle Grand-Milkovic (love.fish, Barangaroo) and Pauline Nguyen (Red Lantern, Darlinghurst) to mixing with other women from all over the world mix paths of life.
