The body of a decomposing man, handcuffed, was found wrapped in a blanket in a pickup truck on July 4.
Police noticed a strong odor emanating from a parked truck at the 3800 block of Alice Street in southeast Houston, Texas. Upon investigation, they discovered a handcuffed man in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, covered with a blanket.
The victim had multiple stab wounds to the neck and was pronounced dead at the scene Monday morning.
Neighbors reported that the truck had been parked on the side of the road for days.
“I came back into the house after sweeping away the porch and it was still there,” a neighbor told KTRK.
“I said, ‘Well, maybe it broke or something.’
A resident of the area, Anthony Brown, said his daughter told him a body had been found in the car that had been stationed there for a few days.
“I was like, ‘That’s too close to consolation, man,'” Brown told the TV network.
Investigators said the body appeared to have been left in the truck for four to five days.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is scheduled to perform an autopsy.
Police have described the suspect as a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing approximately 150 pounds. The suspect was last seen in a yellow shirt and tan work shoes.
Police have not yet determined a motive.
The incident has put some neighbors on alert.
“It makes you more aware,” Brown said. “It makes you more aware and focused on what’s going on around you.”
Anyone with information is urged to call the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers.
The man’s body was discovered a month after the body of a missing woman was discovered buried in her own backyard in Columbus, Georgia.
