A man was arrested after providing police surveillance footage he was unaware of dragging the body of a lifeless woman through his home.

William Redden, 51, allegedly wrapped the body of Stephanie Shenefield in a sheet and dragged it to his car, then transported it to a ditch where he dumped it, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Shenefield, a 38-year-old mother of two, rode an Uber to Redden’s home at 1:20 a.m. on June 3, investigators said. It’s unclear how she died in the house sometime that night.

Redden is accused of dumping Shenefield’s body instead of calling for help.

“William Redden isn’t doing anything about it,” said Rick Wells, Manatee County Sheriff. “He doesn’t call 911, he doesn’t call authorities, he doesn’t call anyone.”

Redden, a suspected drug dealer and felon who has been convicted eight times, told authorities that Shenefield stayed at his Florida home overnight and left the next morning.

Investigators asked Redden if they could take security camera footage inside and outside his home. Redden gave his approval, saying the cameras were merely a “live surveillance system” and were not recording at his home, the sheriff’s office said.

“He tells them not to record at the residence. He was wrong,” Wells said. “Thankfully he’s ignorant and didn’t know that. Because it worked for us.”

The footage chronicled the moments leading up to Shenefield’s death and hints at how her remains ended up in a ditch in Palmetto.

According to Wells, Redden was in the clip “dragging her lifeless body around the house,” placing it in his vehicle, and then driving off.

Shenefield was reported missing on June 5 after missing a concert on Friday and not going to work.

Four days later, two people walking their dog found a “heavily decomposed” body, later identified as Shenefield, in a 12-foot-deep ditch near railroad tracks, the sheriff’s office said.

Redden was charged with abusing a corpse, possessing an altered firearm and possessing a firearm by a criminal. He could face more charges.

‘William Redden is a piece of shit, he is. He had the opportunity to call the police, calling 911 to try to save her. He could have done a lot of things, but that’s not his character,” Wells said.

“The only thing on his mind was trying to get rid of the evidence in his car – that was a human being; that was someone who was really loved in this community.’
