The adoptive parents of a boy whose body was discovered in a washing machine were subsequently arrested first questioned and let go.

Jermaine Thomas, 42, and his wife Tiffany, 35, were taken into custody in connection with the death of 7-year-old Troy Khoeler in July. Jermaine was charged with capital murder and Tiffany with injury to a child by neglect, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez specified at Tuesday evening.

The Thomases reported Troy missing on July 28. Authorities searched her home in Spring, Texas, and found Troy’s body in a top-loading washing machine in the garage.

Troy was “beaten, choked and possibly drowned,” according to his autopsy report. Blood stained the washing machine and parts of the house. His death was ruled manslaughter.

“The autopsy revealed that Troy suffered new and previous injuries,” Gonzalez said. ‘Rest in peace.’

Troy’s parents were arrested and jailed at the Harris County Jail after a “full investigation,” Gonzalez said.

Jermaine’s bond was priced at $2 million, while Tiffany’s bond was priced at $150,000.

The couple threatened to put Troy in an oven after he admitted to eating some of Tiffany’s oatmeal cream pie, according to court filings filed and obtained on Tuesday KPRC. Text messages between the pair also revealed that Jermaine was outraged that Troy had eaten his donut sticks.

“I have to get the (locks). In the end I’ll kill him,” Jermaine reportedly wrote.

Jermaine was questioned by detectives all day after Troy’s body was found. The adoptive father said he could not find the boy when he returned home and that the front door was unlocked.

“It’s just that I got home, I was about to go through the door, I don’t have my keys, but I put my keys on the doorknob and then it just opened,” he told reporters at the time. ‘What after that, I don’t know.’

Tiffany was also interrogated all day.

The sheriff’s office did not charge any of them with a crime and released them.
