Teen injured in shooting near Brickyard Plaza

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact the Salt Lake City Police Department, authorities said.

A 16-year-old was injured in a shooting near Brickyard Plaza on Friday night and investigators have asked the public for leads.

According to a Salt Lake City Police Department press release, multiple 911 calls reported the shooting near a parking lot at 3292 South Richmond Street at around 10:39 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found parked cars with bullet holes and several bullet casings on the ground.

Investigators determined that two cars were pulling into the parking lot when at least one of their passengers began firing at a truck with two people nearby, the release said. According to authorities, at least one of the people next to the truck returned fire.

Officers later learned that someone had dropped off a 16-year-old boy who had been shot in the ankle at a local hospital. According to the press release, the teenager is believed to have been involved in the shooting, but investigators are still working to determine the 16-year-old’s exact role.

Authorities said the teenager’s injuries were not life-threatening. Police also found a bullet hole in the front window of a nearby store, but no other injuries were reported.

The Salt Lake City Police Department Gang Unit is still investigating the shooting. Authorities urged anyone with information about the case to call 801-799-3000.
