Coldplay frontman Chris Martin told fans in Mexico that the band’s track Everglow was sung in honor of Taylor Hawkins after his death was confirmed overnight.

Hawkins died at the age of 50 during the band’s tour of Colombia, and was found in his hotel room in Bogota. His cause of death is still unknown.

“We weren’t sure if we should talk about it at this concert, but we have to because they are our friends and we care about them.

“We feel like we should send love to the Foo Fighters because we all knew Taylor, their drummer who was a beautiful man and that’s why we’re going to play this song for the Foo Fighters.”

Foo Fighters issued a statement on March 25 confirming the devastating news.

“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of Taylor Hawkins,” it said.
