Tavion Thomas of Utah Soccer Team Will Return in 2022

Run back 1,108 yards and 21 touchdowns last season for Utes

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Utah Utes rerun Tavion Thomas (9 (runner for Utes, in PAC-12 action between Utah Utes and Oregon Ducks) at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City , on Saturday, November 20, 2021.

The University of Utah football program is getting another year off of one of its most important offensive weapons.

Fourth year second year running again Tavion Thomas announced on Thursday that he will be returning to Salt Lake City for the 2022 season instead of the statement for the 2022 NFL Draft.

Thomas has been a find in the 2021 season, dashing with 1,108 yards and a season-record in the program of 21 touchdowns, while averaging 5.4 yards per take.

The last time Thomas met the media was on December 28 in Los Angeles, four days before Utah played at its first Rose Bowl. Thomas has made no secret that he is considering leaving the NFL Draft, but he reiterated that a decision won’t be made until after the game.

“I just want to see what my draft stock looks like, I need to see what the plan is,” Thomas said afterward. “I don’t mind, I’d love to come back here in a year. I will wait until everything is done, until after the season.

“My teammates appreciate me, and like I said, I wouldn’t mind going back, running against them, constantly. “Those are some great players, so I certainly wouldn’t mind coming back to play with them, and Coach Whittingham, Coach Mac (Kiel McDonald). I certainly wouldn’t mind.”

McDonald is now out of the equation. Earlier Thursday, he was announced as the new USC coach. It’s a boon for the Trojans’ new head coach Lincoln Riley, and a sizable loss for Whittingham as McDonald’s has grown into his best employer.

The Dayton, Ohio native officially played in 13 games, but 1,081 of 1,108 dashes and all 21 touchdowns came in just 10 of Utah’s 14 competitions. He received just nine executions in three September games while dealing with early-season ball security issues, and then won on November 13 in Arizona as a precaution against concussion. love.

Utes, the 10-4 overall champion and first-time Pac-12 champion to advance to the program’s first Rose Bowl, had seven underclassmen leaving early for the NFL Draft. TJ, Pledger, Britain Covey, Nephi Sewell, Mika Tafua, Cole Fotheringham, Nick Ford and Devin Lloyd all announced their intentions to enter the NFL Draft, but they all played in the Rose Bowl, losing 48-45 at Ohio State.

Thomas’ return will only fuel the notion that Utah is, on paper, the early favorites to win the Pac-12 again in 2022. In addition to Thomas, offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig is expected to return at least as midfielder Cam Rising, plus his top two tennis players. ending with Brant Kuithe and Dalton Kincaid.
