Target Appoints Prat Vemana as Chief Digital and Product Officer – WWD

Target Corp. takes a fresh look at its digital business — one of its key growth areas.

The discounter hired Prat Vemana as executive vice president, chief digital and product officer, effective Oct. 31, reporting to Cara Sylvester, chief guest experience officer.

Vemana will oversee Target’s digital business, a major role that includes website merchandising, user experience, digital operations and products, and the company’s third-party marketplace, Target+.

Brian Cornell, Chief Executive Officer, said, “Digital continues to be a key growth driver for Target and we are pleased that Prat will bring his proven expertise in this space to a higher role within our leadership team. Our team has created a digital shopping experience that is truly first class and under Prat’s leadership, our digital business is well positioned to continue to grow in the years to come.”

Digital accounts for 20 percent of Target’s business, which generated $106 billion in revenue last year.

Vemana said, “Target sets the standard for retail consumer experiences and is known for consistently and engagingly delighting guests at every touch point. I am thrilled to join a company I have long admired and look forward to playing a key role in shaping the future of Target’s leading digital experience.”

Vemana comes to Target from healthcare company Kaiser Permanente, where he served as senior vice president and chief digital officer, leading the company’s enterprise product management and experience teams.
