Good Morning Britain viewers praised Susanna Reid for holding Dominic Raab accountable after reportedly briefing Boris Johnson on allegations against Chris Pincher.

Deputy Prime Minister Mr Raab appeared on Tuesday’s show, where Susanna and Ed Balls quizzed him on whether Mr Johnson was aware of the allegations of improper conduct.

Mr Raab appeared uncomfortable during questioning and pushed back when Susanna said Mr Pincher had been “found guilty” following an investigation into the claims.

He told Susanna that “no formal disciplinary action was taken” against Mr Pincher, although the inquest had upheld the complaint.

After a back-and-forth about whether it was acceptable to have him “found guilty,” Susanna asked him, “Was he guilty of improper conduct or not?”

Mr Raab replied: “He was found… the allegation was found to be substantiated, but we didn’t -” as Susanna interjected: “So he was found guilty of improper conduct?”

“No, no Susanna, guilty is a very loaded term, and while it’s clear that it’s inappropriate-” he began, before interrupting her, “Sorry, inappropriate behavior is a rather loaded term, Herr Raab!”

Herr Raab seemed annoyed as he hit back: “Sorry if you’ll allow me… Susanna you always do that. Let me give you the account and your viewers can decide. I am always happy to answer difficult questions.”

He then reiterated that while the allegations had been substantiated, there had been no formal disciplinary action taken against Mr Pincher.

Elsewhere in the interview, Mr. Raab told Ed to “take care” with his questions, complaining that the questions often took far longer than the time he was allowed to answer before being interrupted.

Viewers took to Twitter to praise Susanna for grilling Mr Raab, tweeting: “The car crash interview of the year with Justice Secretary Dominic Raab shamelessly defending the untenable. Excellent by @susannareid100 @GMB’.

Others added: “Go Susanna! Go Ed! #GMB Raab is thoroughly dragged over the coals – and he’s furious at being caught” and “Dominic Raab’s refusal to take responsibility is amazing for #GMB Susanna Reid & Ed Balls”.

Another wrote: “#raab takes longer than he can answer questions from @GMB @susannareid100 compared to other news channels. Don’t want to be considerate and have to provide legitimate answers? Prefer somewhere else where they don’t care to hold you accountable and accept nonsense.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
