Sumner Tunnel reopens after oversized truck hits ceiling – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (WHDH) — Traffic in the Sumner Tunnel came to a screeching halt Friday night after an oversized truck struck the ceiling, state police said. Drivers could be seen backing out of the tunnel with state police assistance.
An oversized 2016 Volvo semi-trailer truck driven by a 36-year-old man from Dixon, Ontario, was traveling south when it struck the roof of the tunnel.
He was charged with traffic offenses related to motor vehicles.
Members of the state police’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division are on site and will conduct an inspection of the truck and driver.
The tunnel is now open again.
Some people could be seen exiting livery vehicles when they realized their meters would not stop.
Further information was not immediately available.
