Officers with Burwood Police Area Command found a 43-year-old man with serious injuries after allegedly being hit repeatedly with a baseball bat by three men, who then fled the scene.

The man was treated by paramedics from the NSW Ambulance before being rushed to hospital in serious condition.

The next week, around 3am on January 4, emergency services were called to a restaurant on Boulevard in Strathfield after reports of a fire.

Fire & Rescue NSW were on site and put out the blaze which caused significant damage to the business.

A short time later, an allegedly stolen black BMW was found on Portland Avenue in Enfield.

Crime scenes were set up at both locations and investigators concluded that there was a connection between the attack on the man and the suspected fire.

After an extensive investigation — including a public information call — investigators arrested a man at a correctional center on the mid-north coast around 10 a.m. Thursday.
