Story hits 3 homers for Red Sox in 12-6 win over Mariners – Boston News, Weather, Sports

BOSTON (AP) — Trevor Story had three homers, four hits and seven RBIs to help the Boston Red Sox rally from a four-run deficit to beat the Seattle Mariners 12-6 Thursday night.

Story hit two two-barrel home runs and a three-barrel shot in the eighth, and he also singled on the go-ahead run in the sixth with the help of a wild throw. In the first season of a six-year, $140 million contract, Story had just two home runs in 32 games on Thursday.

Jackie Bradley Jr. added an RBI double from the Green Monster as Boston hit nine straight runs and won for the fifth time in seven games.

The Red Sox got four scoreless innings of relief from Tanner Houck (3-3) after Seattle gave starter Rich Hill a 4-0 lead in the first two innings.

Dylan Moore hit a three-run homer in the second round for Seattle, who lost for the third time in four games and fell to 3-4 in Boston on a long trip with three games left.

Ty France added an RBI double in the second as the Mariners chased Hill. Houck (3-3) came out of the bullpen and knocked out the Mariners over the next four, knocking out six and allowing only a hit and a walk.

Seattle rookie George Kirby (0-1) lasted through to the sixth but was pulled off the wall down center after Alex Verdugo’s leadoff double.

Despite failing to pick up his first win in the majors, Kirby was on the hook for loss after Story looped a single from Moore’s glove down the middle and hit Verdugo when Julio Rodríguez’s throw went past the third and outside of the Wall bounced off the Seattle shelter. Story finished second on the throwing error, stole third place, and easily put Boston 6-4 with Bradley’s double high from the monster.

Wyatt Mills, the Seattle reserve, led Bobby Dalbec with loaded bases in the seventh, then hit Christian Vázquez with a pitch, allowing Boston’s eighth straight run to cross the plate. Danny Young went six with Bradley, allowing Story to trot home and score his fourth heat.

Story cut Seattle’s early lead in half with a two-run homer to drive into the middle in the second, then equalized it with another two-run drive in the third that cleared the Green Monster and all the way out of Fenway Park brought out. Then he turned eight off Young, this time also over the monster and onto Landsdowne Street.

It was the 19th multihomer game of Story’s career.

Rodríguez added a solo homer for Seattle in the ninth, his third.

Mariners: Reinstated RHP Drew Steckenrider and returned LHP Roenis Elias to Triple-A Tacoma. Steckenrider was suspended last week before the Mariners crossed the border for a three-game streak in Toronto.

Red Sox: LHP Darwinzon Hernandez underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. Manager Alex Cora said there is no timeline for Hernandez, who has been working on some mechanical issues with Triple-A Worcester.

Mariners: LHP Robbie Ray (4-3, 4.62 ERA) field Friday night. He has won his last two starts and hit nine in Seattle’s win at the New York Mets on Sunday.

Red Sox: RHP Michael Wacha is expected to be reinstated from the injured list, making his first start since May 3. Wacha was 3-0 with a 1.38 ERA before going into the IL with pain in his left side.
