St. Louis dad is frustrated when the school bus doesn’t show up because his son misses class

ST. LOUIS – From St. Louis County to downtown, students have been hit by school bus shortages.

Myron Jones of North St. Louis said he was sick of his son Myron waking up early only to find the bus wasn’t coming to take him to Busch Middle School.

“I’ll wake him up at 4 a.m. Then I’ll sit out there and just see if there’s a bus coming,” Jones said.

Jones said he understands there is a shortage, but it is affecting his son’s and other students’ ability to learn. The father said he was tired of the excuses.

“When you hear ‘sorry, sorry’ over and over again, it gets frustrating, especially when you apologize and nothing gets done,” Jones said.

The St. Louis Public Schools sent a statement to FOX 2 saying, “We are terribly sorry that Mr. Jones is having trouble. This is the first time we are hearing about the situation. We have experts in the district who specialize in working with parents to find solutions and they will contact Mr. Jones.”

Jones said he wouldn’t buy it. He said he has contacted the school board and principal, but nothing has been done.

“They’re just trying to make sure the school board looks good and the school looks good. They’re just protecting each other and protecting each other,” he said.

As a single father who does a strenuous manual job, Jones said the cycle is tiring.

“I work hard and there’s nothing quite like waking up early to find out you didn’t even have to get up,” he said.

His son Myron admits it’s daunting to get up for school knowing he might not have a guaranteed, consistent ride.

“I’ll call my father right away and tell him I don’t see her,” he said.

A standout student, Jones said school was an opportunity for his son to dream.

“Get out of the hood, out of poverty. Education is the safe path,” Jones said. St. Louis dad is frustrated when the school bus doesn’t show up because his son misses class
