Lonnie Walker IV jumped in a jump with 14.9 seconds left to lift the San Antonio Spurs to a 128-126 win over the Utah Jazz on Friday night at Vivint Arena.
Keldon Johnson scored 24 points and got 8 rebounds to lead San Antonio. Derrick White added 22 points and Walker scored in 19. Spurs broke Utah’s eight-game winning streak.
Donovan Mitchell scored 27 points for the Jazz. Jordan Clarkson added 21 points and Mike Conley added 18. Rudy Gobert added 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Mitchell scored into the basket to give Jazz a 126-125 lead with 33 seconds left. Walker replied with a jump jump. Mitchell had two shots in front in the final seconds but missed both shots.
Utah’s effective long-range ability kept San Antonio from leading much. Jazz took 26 of 46 shots from the field in the first half and made eight 3-pointers.
Utah never got through in the second half after Conley and Clarkson scored in a row to break a 39-39 tie. The Jazz eventually took a 17-point lead before halftime, taking a 73-56 lead thanks to Mitchell’s second-chance 3 pointer, taking the lead 10-1.
San Antonio recovered in the third quarter and erased Utah’s double-digit lead. Murray assisted in three consecutive shootings while running 9-0, cutting the deficit to one. Walker then made a jump and assisted another shot from Vassell to give Spurs a 95-93 lead.
San Antonio took 15 of 23 shots from the field in the third half.
Spurs: Dejounte Murray got his second triple-double in three games after finishing with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. … San Antonio went goalless in the third quarter and scored a season-high 41 points. … Spurs have scored 22 points after 13 games of Utah.
Jazz: Mitchell went 4 of 13 from the field in the second half. … Utah beat San Antonio 64-54 on paint points and 18-15 on second-chance points.
