This is the shocking moment a BMW driver hit the curb and pulled onto the sidewalk to avoid waiting at a red light.
Dashcam footage shows the “mad” motorist speeding past vehicles stuck in the traffic queue.
The incident took place near a Southampton primary school and a stunned witness who filmed it said: “It was fortunate no one was injured”.
Moments later, a pregnant woman and another with a stroller passed him.
“I was on my way to my daughter’s school, where she has swimming lessons, when I witnessed this crazy driver hit the sidewalk,” he recalled.
“He wasn’t behind me when I was driving, he just suddenly appeared.
“We walk this route regularly and with children, the little ones often run ahead, so it’s just scary to think about it.
“To be honest it’s just a matter of timing that someone doesn’t get hurt and this wasn’t much more serious.
“You don’t expect that when you’re walking on a sidewalk and a car comes the other way, right?
“I don’t know what would make anyone do it, it’s not like we have to wait that long at the traffic light.”
According to a 2016 study by comparison website Confused.com, drivers spend the equivalent of two days a year sitting at red lights.
On average, they lose eight minutes a day waiting for green, with nearly a fifth getting stuck for 15 minutes.
Why the BMW driver decided to skip the line and how many cars he passed is still unclear.
But their actions can’t help the stereotype that owners of this brand are supposedly obnoxious and self-important.
Hampshire Police have confirmed that the incident is being investigated.
